The Louvre!
Venus de Milo
Ah yes the Mona Lisa, this is it without any zoom, not that big
And the crowd in front of it
Liberty leading the people
We ate at le Grand Colbert where parts from the movie Something's Gotta Give were filmed
Found kilometre zero! I remembered this from high school because the last time Mme Martin had taken students there they took a picture. Supposedly if you touch it, it means you'll return to Paris!
And of course Notre Dame
That night we went to see the ballet "Onéguine" at THE opera house, L'Opéra Garnier. Yes this is the one Gaston Leroux based his novel off of (Phantom of the Opera/Fantôm de L'opéra) and also the one modeled in the ALW musical version and the movie.
It was absolutely beautiful, I had chills as the orchestra started to warm up, since I miss music and all. It was hard to decide to look at the pit or the stage, especially with piccolo from time to time.
During the second intermission I decided to find it and it was fairly easy to find. It's the Phantom's box aka Box 5
Okay story time: I can't remember exactly when this happened but I think it was right after we left the ballet we hopped on the metro to go find somewhere to eat. It was metro line 1, there was a group of 5 or 6 young looking girls, kind of badly dressed, they were standing very close to Dr. Reish (director of the libraries at western who took us to Paris) when we heard him yell "What your bags!!" It turns out that one of them held a bag in front of him so he couldn't see his pockets, while another one went into his pocket and took his wallet! However, he pushed her the wallet fell and someone nearby picked it up. Craaazy stuff but that was the craziest thing we saw on the metro, besides an orchestra, singers, a Micheal Jackson impersonator. I thought back to Suzie Martin's story of how she got her iphone stolen the last time she took students to Paris, it is important to always be aware of your surroundings in Paris especially on the metro.
We did make it to Hard Rock in Paris (because it was the only thing open) for a bite to eat, I've only been to the the one in NYC it didn't even think the chain existed in Europe. I even found a hat belonging to Eminem, since we're from the same area and all haha
The beautiful Museé D'Orsay! My favorite for sure, because I absolutely love impressionism and post-impressionism
Unfortunately no pictures were allowed inside :( but I did see the following
This was in my room when I was little!
Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas! And of course Van Gough, it's a shame that Starry Night wasn't there, but in DC.
Le grand bistro had TV's in the toilettes....
Sacre Coeur and Montmartre!
The Comedie Français, the oldest comedy theater in France! Founded in 1680 and moved into this theatre in 1799. We saw "Un chapeau de paille d'Italie", English title: The Italian straw hat or the Horse eats the hat
Starring Pierre Niney! Who I saw as YSL in the Yves Saint-Laurent film!
These two days might of been my absolute favorites, a chance to see a ballet and a comedie at the best theatres in France as well as world renown art, incroyable! I still have more pictures to post here!
À plus, Liz
